Peonies and Mrs. Merian

Well! Imagine my surprise this morning when I logged onto the internet and Google had a tribute to Maria Sibylla Merian!! I love her drawings! For the last few months I have been working on a drawing inspired by her - mine is of peonies and, and, and something ________________... well, that would be why I am still working on it - I had dragonflies, erased them and put in monarchs, erased them and put in cicadas, erased them and put in crows, erased them and put in.... had to start fresh and redraw the peonies....  I also tried pairing the flowers with guitars, or shells, or keys, or feathers, or even a hot-air balloon... Just haven't found the right combination yet.
I don't know if she ever drew peonies - but I love them so I drew them.
I hope I can finish it sometime soon so I can show you all.

In the mean time, here is one of her works:
Artwork: Maria Sibylla Merian "Cotton Rose" 1705
