Saying goodbye to 2011

What better way to end a year, than to flip it off?

I didn't want to...

I didn't want to learn too much about photography. Just enough to take ok pics of the special event in my life, and to have fun outings (as an inexpensive way to enjoy a day).Well, I now find myself taking pics that are challenging - just to challenge myself.
One of Santa's elves stopped by with an early gift - a field manual to my camera! (so if the tree isn't decorated, and the presents aren't bought, wrapped, or shipped on time - it is because I am distracted by a book!)
I also bought myself a cheep tripod for the swim team pics - got much better ones this time! Yay!

New Photo Challenge

A pool - A swim meet
lighting is poor - flash is discouraged - action is fast
But I have been working on that with Indoor Soccer photo shoots
The new hurdle - Parents sit up in a balcony
The distance - might be an easy fix (bring a tripod)

Look! I learned something!!!

The boys are in a gym and I cannot go in. I can look through windows with wires in them.  Flash causes reflection. There is a natural reflection as well.  Light is very low and yellow. Action is quick - very quick! This photo shoot would be a challenge, even to "real" photographers!
Who wants to join me next Sunday night and see what else we can do?

first I took a test photo - glare
then I adjusted my settings - no flash not enough adjusting
then I adjusted them some more - still no flash!!!
I did it!!! Not as clear as I would like - but what a difference!

I spy a Comic Con with my Eye!

Does anyone else wonder if they are wearing any clothing under their Storm Trooper Gear?

I spy a Parade... with my new lens

Yay! My new lens finally came!!! And with it a few new visual problems for me to explore. First (and the biggest problem) it zooms TOO much! I need to re-learn how to watch my son's soccer game through the lens because I am so close to the action: I keep jumping, thinking the ball is coming directly towards me. I need to learn to step back to get a photo.  I will definitely need a tripod (or unipod) to stabilize it; the lens is huge and I now have camera shake!

But despite these issues I was able to take a few ok pics.

Help Rebuild the Walter Elwood Museum

We can help this small community save and possible restore their small museum!

Flood - I Spy with my sad eye....

....damage to my home town.
...and with my camera - with the scratched lens - I JUST HAD to go take a few pics!
(Can you find the dark spot in each photo from the scratch on the lens?)

New Birdhouse Doll...

This bird house was purchased undecorated by the Law Firm of Schumann-McGhee, for the FOVAPA festival and I was the Artist assigned to Decorate it!

She (the doll) won second place, I had a good time, the Law Firm gets a quirky decoration and the money raised went to Arts in the local communities. That is what I call a win/win in second place.

I carved the little bird in the nest and three little eggs just for this doll.  I think she looks very similar to my other bird house doll.  What do you think?

I Spy...

At the Amsterdam river front park... I took so many pics that should have been more interesting, but I am having problems with my lens... going to have to go to the Amsterdam Photo Club mtg tomorrow night and see if "Linda" can help... She said it sounds like it needs a good cleaning.
